Magic Words Resource Workshops
M100W - Magic Words in a Balanced Reading Program
‘Being able to read many words automatically by sight contributes massively to fluent reading and is the most efficient way to unlock the meaning of text’ (Westwood P.S. 2001).
Magic Words is a Learning Centre Resource of high-frequency words to improve reading and writing skills, improve fluency and develop comprehension rapidly. This workshop encourages teachers to value the specific and consistent teaching and learning of high frequency words as one of the most efficient ways to support students to code-break texts.
Participants will work with the resource which consists of playing cards and a resource manual full of ideas for literacy centre activities. They will understand the links between this resource and accelerated learning and they will have fun!
