Teacher & Teacher Aides - Magic Words
Alexandra Hills State SchoolDear Marcella,
I attended the workshop you presented in Logan District
in Brisbane a few weeks ago.
I relayed the story of one of my intellectually impaired students, Jack, who could only read 5 words at the beginning of last year and who was able to read 97 words by the end of the year. You gave me an Easter Egg and a Word Mat for him. He was delighted.
This is his letter to say “Thank You”. I told him that I had met you and I talked to you about how clever he had been to be able to “read” 97 words at the end of last year. I said he was very special because you wrote the book and you were very pleased he had done so well.
He is now learning his pink words and willing reads at his level. He loves the Steve Parish books about Australian Animals as well as some Dr Seuss Books – particularly The Cat in the Hat. This is so rewarding to see as he used to be so reluctant to even open a book or attempt any reading. He now likes looking for books in the library and looks forward to seeing if I have bought something new for him to read each week.
His Mum sheds a few tears every now and then and she is so proud of the progress he has made and the way he reads for her at home.
Many thanks
