PAT EDGAR (B.Ed, M.Ed.)

“I believe that if educators are to instill a love for learning and knowledge in their students they must be on a continual path of learning themselves”

I completed a Bachelor of Education in the eighties and following that a Master Education in the nineties whilst teaching full time in a Bayside State School in Brisbane Queensland.

In fifteen years I taught in all primary year level classrooms, trained as a Reading Recovery teacher, was a part and full time literacy coordinator and acting Deputy Principal. I was lucky to have the opportunity to go to Victoria and train in the Victorian Early Years Program. Since starting this consultancy four years ago I have co-written a very successful literacy training program for teacher aides and a Middle Years program for teachers.

I continue my learning through attending conferences locally and internationally, subscribing to many professional associations and actively participating on the local council for the Australian Literacy Education Association.

On a more personal level I have been married to my husband Des for over 30 years and have three beautiful children. I am thankful for their encouragement and support of my passion for teaching and learning.

DEB TYSON (Dip.T, Grad.Dip. Spec. Ed.)

Engaging, informative and entertaining….

I consistently receive outstanding feedback from teachers and teacher aides with regards to working with Deb. Many Schools recall Deb year after year to continue mentoring and modeling for teachers, teacher aides and administrators.

Deb Tyson began working in this consultancy in 2002 and has developed to senior consultancy level. Deb has been teaching in various roles in primary schools for more than 30 years. She has worked in classrooms and supported teaching staff in her role as a support teacher learning difficulties and as a literacy coordinator.

Deb’s specialty is working with schools to implement a whole school approach to improving literacy outcomes for all students and she is called upon regularly to develop strong assessment and monitoring programs for schools.

Deb is married to Chas and they have three beautiful children who are a great support to her endeavours in pursuing her quest to improving outcomes for all students.

Lena Ford

LENA FORD (Dip Ed, Special Ed)

Dynamic, purposeful and caring...

It is June 2008 and I have been very lucky to have had the opportunity to work closely with another teacher who has set herself on the continual path of a lifelong learner. Lena is vey keen to share her expertise with others and I am thrilled that she has chosen to do it with this consultancy.

Lena has been teaching since 1973, during which time she has taken on a variety of roles within the private and state sectors. She is a PD “junkie” in the quest to feed her appetite in keeping up with cutting-edge practice and pedagogy of effective teaching. Lena’s classroom teaching experience ranges from Prep to Year 7 and includes working with ESL and Special Needs. Lena offers a broad insight and expertise into teaching.

With the strong belief that building partnerships in education is productive, Lena has coordinated parent training programs including Early Years Classroom Helpers and Support a Talker. She currently teaches part time, provides educational consultancy for a phonemic approach to spelling program and is excited about the launch of her first educational series as a co-author.

Lena’s husband Warwick and their 4 wonderful children provide the loving, encouraging and supportive environment she needs to pursue her love of learning and teaching.
