ASD - Autistic Spectrum Disorder Workshops
The modern teacher aide works under the direction of the teacher. She/he works as a paraprofessional within a multidisciplinary team. We aim to equip teacher aides with knowledge and skills so that they can be a more effective support for the ASD student in the mainstream classroom.
The Department of Education, Training and the Arts (DETA) has adopted the term Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) for those conditions that are referred to in the literature as either Pervasive Developmental Disorders or Autistic Spectrum Disorders.
Pervasive Developmental Disorders are characterised by severe and pervasive impairment in several areas of development: reciprocal social interaction skills, communication skills, or the presence of stereotyped behaviour, interests and activities.
