Reading Workshops
Middle Years Reading (4-9) Two Day Workshop
This course is specifically designed for Teacher Aides who work with students in the middle years of schooling (4-9). It ensures the participants understand the needs of adolescent learners. Teacher aides will enhance their understanding of the reading process, the various text types and how to apply this knowledge in guided reading with small groups and in one on one intervention programs.

Understanding the reading proces:
Reading is a process that requires the orchestration
of three sources of information.
Running records assist in gaining
information about a reader. The Informal Prose Inventory is used to
discuss how to analyse what a student knows, nearly knows and needs
to know.
The Instructional Approaches:
Reading to, Reading with, Reading by
Working with Middle Years students in a small group
or one on one using modelled, shared or guided reading and understanding
the various levels of support needed for a diverse range of abilities

Language Experience approach:
This approach is a process used to support students with very little ability in all areas of literacy.
