The modern teacher aide works under the direction of the teacher. She/he works as a paraprofessional within a multidisciplinary team. This workshop aims to equip teacher aide’s with knowledge and skills so that they can be a more effective support for the ASD student in the mainstream classroom.
Content Overview
Definitions and the major areas of need will be explored
- social interaction,
- flexibility in thinking,
- communication and sensory information processing.
Classroom support and behaviour management
A range of options for classroom support and behaviour management will be shared.
The playground will be seen through the eyes of the ASD student and practical ideas for its access and management will be shared.
Crisis Management
Participants will explore the implications of a crisis and how to manage it.
