Support Strategies for Literacy Learners
Teacher Aides require a thorough understanding of what it is readers need to know and understand in order to be proficient code-breakers and Text Participants. This workshop will provide Teacher Aides with a repertoire of practical strategies for code breaking and comprehension. A feature of this workshop is the many opportunities for practical application and hands on activities.

Code-Breaking
- Phonological Awareness- awareness of sounds, patterns of sounds and sound groups
- Grapho -phonics – linking of sound and letter relationships.
- Scope and sequence of grapho- phonic skill development
- Word sorts

Levels of comprehension

A repertoire of comprehension strategies
Skim, Predict, Scan, QAR, Summarise, Identifying Cause& Effect, Main Idea, Paraphrasing, Compare and Contrast, Clarifying, Figurative Language, Identifying Fact & Opinion, Bias & Prejudice
Application of these skills in classroom reading activities.
