Targeting Opportunities for Literacy in Prep
This workshop will target the daily opportunities for enhancing the literacy development of Prep
students within the five main contexts for learning and development . There will be particular
emphasis on the instructional approaches within a continuum of support to introduce and
consolidate the required indicators for reading, viewing, writing and shaping.

- Investigate aspirations for exiting Prep using draft National Curriculum and Prep Guidelines.

- Phonological Awareness - a pre-requisite for learning to read and write
- Introducing grapho-phonemic information
The Instructional Approaches
A practical approach to understanding the three cueing systems and applying this knowledge in the classroom.- A scaffolded approach - Reading to, Reading with, Reading by
- The Reading, Writing connection
- Shared Reading, Interactive Writing, Language Experience (whole class and small group)
- Management of small groups
