- Writing for NAPLAN: Strategies to Improve Narrative Writing
The writing workshops support teachers to implement a structured approach to writing using a continuum of support. The instructional approaches include Modelled, Shared, Guided, Interactive Writing and Language Experience. A whole -part-whole structure is advocated and ideas and strategies to implement a writing block are investigated.
These workshops are very practical and recognize that the writing process is complex and involves writers linking their ideas to the spoken word and to printed messages. Therefore teachers need to teach all aspects of the writing process i.e. planning, composing, revising, recording and publishing. The writer's role is described as either authorial or secretarial and these roles are associated with particular aspects of the writing process. An understanding of these roles improves the teaching of writing and the learning to be a writer.
