This workshop will target the daily opportunities for enhancing the literacy development of Prep students within the five main contexts for learning and development. There will be particular emphasis on the instructional approaches within a continuum of support to introduce and consolidate the required indicators for reading,viewing and writing and shaping.

- Investigate aspirations for exiting Prep using Literacy Indicators,
- Essential Learnings and Prep Guidelines.

Focused Teaching and Learning
- Phonological Awareness - a pre-requisite for learning to read and write
- Introducing grapho-phonemic information
The Instructional Approaches
A practical approach to understanding the three cueing systems and applying this
knowledge in the classroom.
- A scaffolded approach - Reading to, Reading with, Reading by
- The Reading, Writing connection
- Shared Reading, Interactive Writing, Language Experience (whole class and small group)
- Management of small groups
