The Essentials of Implementing an Effective Reading Program 4-9 (Full Day)
This day specifically focuses on supporting middle years teachers in implementing a consistent structured approach to improving the reading of all students in their classroom. We draw upon current research relating to the learning needs of students in the middle years and support teachers efforts to develop and implement programs that address the challenges raised by "New Times, New Literacy". A whole - part - whole approach to the teaching of reading is advocated using a continuum of support which includes the instructional approaches of Modelled, Shared, Guided Reading and Cooperative and Collaborative strategies. Guided and Shared reading are modelled and ideas and strategies are shared with regard to managing the classroom learning environment.
